Don’t Underestimate Pet Insurance
March 10th, 2010 by Sarah. No Comments »This is a simple, short case history of a friend of mine who didn’t have their dog insured. There are many reasons to insure your dog, and they are not all to do with paying the vet bills. Although these can be expensive on their own, you should try paying for public liability…
A friend of mine is still paying off a claim made against him for an alleged attack his dog made on a woman in the street. Now, i’ll explain what happened before anyone starts getting worried about killer dogs and thinks that i am advocating bad behaviour. The facts of the matter are this.
The woman in question approached my friend’s dog (a two month old spaniel) outside of a supermarket in the local town in which he lives. The dog was happy to see the woman and she knelt down to stroke him. The dog then jumped up and scratched the woman’s hand purely by accident in a playful mood. The woman screamed and claimed that the dog attacked her. No reliable witnesses could claim otherwise so the woman was believed.
Now i don’t want to sound nasty or anything here, and i happen to know that the woman had a bad reaction dermatologically on her hand due to the dog’s claws, but since when do you approach a dog to stroke it when it’s on its own outside of a shop, tied up? You should really ask the owner’s permission shouldn’t you? Or at least wait until the owner of the dog is there.
Well now my friend is paying off dermatologist bills due to a legal claim against him and his dog. Had he had pet insurance he would have been covered for idiot women like this and his dog could have scratch the hell out of her perhaps a little more to teach her that she was an idiot!
