Finding the Best Pet Insurance

The word “best” is always subjective. For one person the best could mean the cheapest or it could mean the most comprehensive of all options. When discussing the best pet insurance it is necessary to look at what the insurance covers to determine what might be the best. It is impossible to name company names when saying which is the best because of the subjective nature of the choices.

You need to know what you are looking for in a pet insurance policy. Ask yourself a few questions to determine what the best will be for you:

1. What breed of pet do you own?

2. Have they had any health issues since you obtained them?

3. Have you been providing basic health care for your pet?

4. Are you going to breed your pet?

5. Is your pet older than five years?

6. Are there any congenital or hereditary conditions?

7. Pre- existing conditions?

8. Are they a working dog?

9. Do you want Dental coverage?

10. Preventative coverage?

The above are just a few questions you should have answers to before looking for the best pet insurance coverage. Insurance policies do have exclusions. Exclusions can be based on age, breed, where you live, or certain treatments you might like for your pet.

First there are companies out there that are very selective about the breeds of dogs and some cats that they will cover. These dogs and cats have hereditary or congenital issues. In other words the breed has always had more health problems than other breeds out there. Health insurance companies tend to charge more for these types of breeds or they will not cover them at all. You will have to determine if your pet can be covered.

Once you know if your pet will be covered by any insurance plan you will be able to eliminate some of the companies by answering the other questions we outlined above. Most insurance companies will not cover pre- existing conditions. If you know your pet already has health issues which you are getting the coverage for, this could be another issue. There again, some companies do offer policies but at a higher price.

You will have to weigh the cost of the insurance against what you will be offered in the policy. The best insurance is certainly going to make the coverage affordable for you. It will cover what you need. You just have to determine what you need covered for your pet to ensure they will be healthy for their lives. If annual checkups are all you need for now you can certainly find several policies which will look the best. When you begin to add coverage such as medical emergencies or accidents the coverage can increase, yet you might find that it is still the best. Accidents happen, and if you can find a coverage you can afford that offers this coverage that (in our opinion) is the best. Every eventuality that could occur with pets should be taken care of.
